About this collection

BLM-managed lands provide for multiple uses, all of which affect local communities through social impacts. The social impact of energy development, for example, has been a widely-examined issue. Many factors are assessed including social organization, political organization, economic organization, population and demographics, family matters, attitudes, values, quality of life, and impacts to specific groups (including Native Americans, women, and youth). BLM works to mitigate or reduce adverse effects and enhance beneficial effects on areas affected by natural resource uses or developments. Publications in this collection include social impact analyses, social effects projects, and community research papers.
