About this collection

The BLM assumed responsibility for Western coal development studies and research from 1974 to 1982 through its Energy Minerals Rehabilitation Inventory and Analysis (EMRIA) program. The EMRIA program was established to gather information about the reclamation potential on coal lease tracts and to develop lease stipulations to assure the achievement of reclamation goals for Federal coal lands. The Western EMRIA reports are a multidisciplinary integration of field and literature data on geology, visual resources, overburden, hydrology, climate, soils, vegetation, and land use. The studies identified site-specific problems affecting reclamation and recommended measures to deal with those problems.
