This collection includes publications of the program area of forest management. One fourth of BLM land is forest or woodland and is managed for a variety of uses, including timber production and biomass energy production. These lands are managed for permanent forest production in conformance with the principle of sustained yield to provide a permanent source of timber supply. Forested lands also provide high-quality wildlife habitat, protect watersheds, regulate stream flow, contribute to the economic stability of local communities and industries, and provide recreational opportunities. Management is focused on forest health restoration, reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire, and forest product sales by commercial green and salvage timber sales as well as personal use permits.
