BLM manages leases, permits, and plans of operations on 700 million acres of federal mineral estate. This includes leasing for coal, trona, soda ash, and phosphate development as well as issuing permits for sand, gravel, and stone and approving plans and notices for the development of locatable minerals like gold and silver. Locatable minerals include both metallic minerals (gold, silver, lead, copper, zinc, nickel, etc.) and nonmetallic minerals (fluorspar, mica, certain limestone and gypsum, tantalum, heavy minerals in placer form, and gemstones). Publications from the Abandoned Mined Lands (AML) Program are included in this collection along with other minerals and mining reports.
